SPECIAL MESSAGE:  The COVID pandemic we have experienced over the past two years has had a huge impact on our entire world.  The isolation and uncertainty that has accompanied the pandemic has had a dramatic impact on our mental health. To safely serve my clients  until the pandemic has subsided, our sessions will be conducted primarily via telehealth with encrypted, secure HIPPA & HITECH compliant software.

The image above is a design from the Maori culture in New Zealand called a Koru. The Koru is the Maori symbol for "new beginnings." I feel this is a wonderful symbol for the new beginning that people can experience as a result of the insight gained in psychotherapy.

"My goal as your therapist is to help you discover a new beginning for a better and fuller life."

I love my work as a psychologist, and consider it an honor and privilege to work with my clients and to share in their quest for personal growth. In today's society, stress is an unfortunate part of everyday life and since, unfortunately, we cannot eradicate all stress from our lives, we must learn to deal more effectively with life stressors. As a psychologist, my ultimate goal is to assist my clients in developing tools and skills that enable them to effectively deal with life and its challenges. My approach to psychotherapy is interpersonal and collaborative, thus, I develop a therapeutic alliance with my clients to help them establish and implement their treatment goals. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth, wholeness and health. My role, therefore, is to facilitate that innate ability for personal growth, insight and autonomy. With commitment and focus, the process of psychotherapy can bring about significant life changes.

ABOUT

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in May 2001 from the University of Texas at Austin with a Doctoral Portfolio Specialization in Women's Health. My internship was at the Malcom Randolph Veteran's Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. I considered it an immense privilege to work with veterans in a medical setting. This training helped develop my applied skills in health psychology, an exciting field that incorporates aspects of the mind, body and spirit.

EXPERIENCE

Prior to obtaining my PhD, I worked in a variety of occupations: for a law firm, as Patient Services Coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Mississippi, as an administrator of a Montessori school, as a community volunteer, as a real estate broker, and as a parent (probably the hardest job of all!).  Thus, I entered this phase of my life with a good deal of life experience, which I consider to be a personal asset in my work as a psychologist.

I have maintained a private practice for 21 years and love working with people to help them find answers to life challenges. My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic, generally described as cognitive behavioral, interpersonal and collaborative.  Fundamentally, I try to adapt my therapeutic strategies to fit the client's needs.
